Class Overview
Step inside our mobile Airstream studio for an exclusive, 2-week masterclass that explores the intersection of two timeless crafts. Over two consecutive sessions, you will design, sculpt, and build a complete, luxury leather accessory from scratch, topped with custom metal hardware you hand-carved yourself.
No previous jewelry-making or leatherworking experience is required. You will choose between two design paths:
- The Canine Collection: Carve a custom dog tag in Week 1, and build a rugged leather dog collar to mount it on in Week 2.
- The Wearable Art Set: Carve a statement pendant in Week 1, and craft a classic, custom-fit leather belt or strap accessory to hang it from in Week 2.
The 2-Week Journey
Week 1: Sculpting the Hardware (Wax Carving)
- In the Studio: You will design and hand-carve your unique dog tag or pendant out of jeweler's wax using professional files, scribes, and texturing tools.
- Behind the Scenes: After class, the jeweler sends your wax creation to a professional foundry to be cast into solid metal via lost-wax casting. The jeweler will professionally clean up, sand, and machine-polish your metal piece at the bench so it is brilliant and ready for Week 2.
Week 2: Engineering the Strap (Leatherwork)
- In the Studio: With your freshly polished metal hardware waiting at your bench, you will select your premium leather strap from a variety of pre-cut widths and colors.
- The Technique: Learn the classic fundamentals of traditional leathercrafting. You will focus on precise sizing, beveling and finishing your edges, and mastering decorative hand-stamping with mallets and steel stamps to personalize your design.
- The Assembly: You will use heavy-duty punches to create your sizing notches and hardware holes. Using solid rivets, a setter, and a mallet, you will securely assemble your strap and hardware, walking out of the Airstream wearing your finished heirloom that very night.

Class Overview
Unlock one of the most foundational and empowering skills in the jeweler’s repertoire. In this relaxed, 3-hour workshop, you will step inside our mobile Airstream studio to learn the core fundamentals of sawing and piercing by transferring a design directly onto raw metal.
No prior metalsmithing experience is required. Guided step-by-step by a professional jeweler, you will learn to glide through metal, piercing delicate windows of negative space and sculpting clean, dramatic shapes using patience and a rhythmic touch.
The Creative Journey
- The Silhouette Design: You will start by transferring your custom template—whether it’s a geometric motif, a botanical outline, or an initial monogram—directly onto raw sheet metal.
- The Intricate Cut: Learn the proper stance and fluid rhythm required to operate a jeweler's saw frame, alongside the technique of drilling internal pilot holes to pierce delicate, hollow windows out of the metal's center.
- Hand Filing & Sanding: You will use professional hand files and graduated sanding sticks to smooth your cut edges, soften sharp corners, and clean up the profile of your design.
- The Final Polish (Behind the Scenes): To keep our compact mobile cabin clean and peaceful, the jeweler takes your hand-shaped metal piece to the main studio bench after class. There, it will undergo professional machine wheel polishing for a flawless, bright, retail-ready shine.
- Delivery: Your custom, high-polished silhouette masterpiece will be elegantly packaged and ready for pickup or shipping within 1 week.

- In the Studio: With your freshly polished metal hardware waiting at your bench, you will begin stringing and knotting your gemstones on premium silk cord to layout your design.
- The Technique: Learn the classic fundamentals of traditional silk knotting. You will focus on precise stone spacing, tension control, creating clean fluid drapes, and mastering secure cord termination methods.
- The Assembly: You will assemble the necklace together with the beautiful custom closure that you made in Week 1, walking out of the Airstream wearing your finished heirloom that very night.

No previous jewelry-making or knitting experience is required! Using standard knitting needles, you will be guided through the mechanics of casting on and looping fine 1mm chain links. The result is a fluid, fabric-like metal mesh that can be shaped into a necklace, bracelet, or even a small bag.
How It Works
- In Class: You will spend the 3-hour session learning the unique rhythm of drawing metal loops through metal loops using standard knitting needles to build a uniform, openwork mesh that catches the light beautifully.
- The Professional Finish (Behind the Scenes): Because securing the raw ends of a knitted chain structure requires precision hand-tools, the jeweler will take your completed piece right after class. - Option 2: Adorn Only ($45): Already made a leather bracelet in one of our previous classes? Bring it back to the bench! Skip the construction phase and spend the session designing and setting a fresh array of studs and rhinestones.
What You Will Do:
- Design: Map out a custom pattern using shiny metal studs and sparkling glass rhinestone rivets.
- Craft: Measure, cut, and punch raw leather stock, then securely mount your buckle hardware.
